Course Description

Takes a deep look at middle school and high school math topics with the intent of developing both mathematical and pedagogical knowledge needed to become an effective math teacher. Considers the needs of different types of students that the future teacher is likely to encounter, as well as a variety of lesson types and assessments. Explores relevant math classroom supplies, including how to use them and where to get them, as well as the use of technology in a math classroom. Candidates will understand the Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and how certain math topics connect across all of the 6-12 curriculum, and the implications of that when developing lessons. Blends university based classes with fieldwork.
